Our Group of Parishes

We are currently two groups comprising nine Anglican parishes serving ten rural villages in central Lincolnshire. We are in the process of creating one large group.

Each church has its own character and activities, but we work and share together as much as we can, in worship and social events throughout the year.

Our group of parishes is also part of Horncastle Deanery, which stretches from Wragby down to Mareham Le Fen. We are part of the Diocese of Lincoln within the Church of England.

Population figures are taken from the 2021 census.

The Woodhall Spa Group consists of a larger church in Woodhall Spa, (population around 4100) plus three in villages to the north: Stixwould with Woodhall (270), Bucknall (370) and Horsington (250) - largely agricultural communities, plus two further churches in Langton with Old Woodhall (262), and Kirkstead, which has an ancient Abbey Chapel which attracts worshippers mainly in the Summer months.

The Bain Valley Group has 4 churches - the largest is the Collegiate church Holy Trinity in Tattershall (pop. 2700) which is just along the road from St Michael’s in Coningsby (4500). Then two smaller churches - one is in Kirkby on Bain (310) and the other is in Roughton with Haltham (670). Haltham has a church that is now in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust.

The group is relatively compact with no village more than 15 minutes drive from Woodhall Spa.
